The magnificent Bernese Oberland region is famous for its impressive triple–peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The region is renowned for boasting world class winter and summer activities. It is the higher part of the canton of Bern, Switzerland in the southern end of the canton surrounded by the Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and the valleys of the Bernese Alps. Bernese Oberland is well worth a visit due to the great combination of mountain peaks, fresh air, lush Rolling Meadows, jagged rocks etc. Interlaken is the good place to explore the central region of Bernese Oberland. It lays between two lakes Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Visitors can avail cable car to explore many en route vintage points. From Grindelwald visitors can take Jungfrau Railway up to the Jungfraujoch, which is the Europe’s highest cable way station. On the route to the “Top of Europe” one can enjoy unique views of the glaciers of Swiss Alps such as Eismeer, the Eigerwand and the Schilthorn. The western part of the Bernese Oberland is best known for the glittering ski resort town of Gstaad which is a one street village which is very charming and attractive full of restored weathered wood chalets. The other major attraction includes Muerren which is the transfer point for dramatic ride upto the longest cable railway in the Alps to the Piz Gloria on the Schilthorn peak. Other places to visit include the picturesque towns of Bönigen and Iseltwald. Among the must visit destination of Bernese Oberland is Stockhorn which has one of the nicest panoramas that offer the views of Thun, Stockenseen Lakes , Oberstockensee Lake , Erlenbach along with some of the famous Swiss and French Alps. Thun the other major attraction of Bernese Oberland offers excellent wind conditions for sailing and windsurfing. It offers various possibilities of swimming, horse riding, strolling and motor biking along the lake shore and in the nearby hills to the visitors.
