Founded in the year 1905, by the Bernese section of the Swiss Alpine club the museum is dedicated to the nature, culture and peculiarities of the Alpine world. This museum plunges visitors in to the Swiss mountain world, its atmosphere, diversity of rock and glaciers, climate, flora and fauna, tourism and winter sports. The only museum dedicated to the Swiss Alps enable visitors to imagine Alpine flights and dangerous climbing expeditions. The journey and discovery of Swiss Alps is accompanied by videos, commented slides, multi vision info stations and impressive originals. It contains some 20,000 objects, 16,000 photographs, 600 prints and 180 paintings by the renowned artists like Ferdinand Hodler. The Swiss Alpine Museum is world’s largest collection of raised – relief maps. Visitors can tour a permanent exhibition of selected objects labeled in four languages in German, French, Italian and English. The museum remains open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Monday from 2pm to 5 pm.
