The impressive fort of Munot was built by the inhabitants of Schaffhausen from 1564 - 89.This towering fort was built under the direction of Heinrich Schwarz, and is based on the fortification design of Albrecht Dürer.The fort was built as battlement post. Today the fortress is a highly visited attraction and is also a venue for many children’s carnivals, balls, open air performances and movies.
The old town of Schaffhausen has the air of medieval era with narrow streets and is 100% car free. The houses of the old town are decorated with richly designed oriels. The walls of the houses are painted with colorful murals. In summers the narrow streets turns into an open air shopping promenade where one can stroll and shop.
