Winterthur Fotomuseum was founded in 1993 and is dedicated to the art of photography.
It is a gallery dedicated to contemporary photography on one hand and on the other hand it represents the classic work of 19th and 20th century master photographers. The cultural, historical and sociological museum of photography depicts the photographs of different areas like industry, architecture fashion, life style and technology. The museum takes care of collections which to date comprises more than 30 bequests and about 30,000 original prints of outstanding photographers. Apart from this the museum is dedicated to preservation, discovery and referral of photographic work. Fotomuseum Winterthur, together with Fotostiftung Schweiz forms a centre of excellence for photography, complete with library, art education programs, lounge, seminar rooms, bistro and shop. Some of the most important exhibitions of the recent years were “Zoe Leonard – Photographs”, “Sergey Bratkov – Glory Days” or “Alec Soth – Sleeping by the Mississippi”.
