From the Bernese Oberland village of Brienz, the Brienz Rothorn Railway puffs its way up to the Brienz Rothorn summit. The Brienz Rothorn Railway is Switzerland’s oldest steam cog railway with three generations of locomotives in use. Ever since 1892 the summer months of Brienz have witnessed a nostalgic stream cogwheel train which starts its journey at 566 m or 1857 ft. above the sea level. The reward of this 7.6 km journey is a spectacular panorama of mountains meadows and woodlands cuts through high rock faces and the finally reached the rugged summit by crossing steep Alpine pastures. Ever-changing views of traditional woodcarving village of Brienz, down the turquoise lake to Interlaken the hospitality of the Rothorn Kulm Hotel and a wide selection of incomparable hikes across the majestic Bernese Alps make this a truly unique train trip.
