Route : Chur - Tirano
The Bernina Express on Rhaetian railway is one of the worlds most majestic railway route between Chur and Tirano .It is the highest-altitude trans-Alpine line in Europe. The rail route travels over the highest mountain pass in Alps named for Bernina Mountain peak. The Bernina rail lines along with Abdula have been named as a UNESCO World Heritage site.The journey of Bernina Express begins with an attractive stretch of the famous glacier Morteratsch at the height of 2,253 m and ends in Tirano Italy. It is one of the steepest rail stretches in the world which takes the visitors back to old rail days with its hand signal desk, cardboard tickets stamped by the station master .The most interesting feature of this rail stretch is that it runs with out cogwheel operation. During their journey the travelers get a glimpse of serene beauty of vegetation zone between the glaciers of Bernina and palms of Tirano. The trains run daily and the reservation is necessary.
