The Trient Valley links Martigny in lower Valais via the border town of Le Châtelard with Chamonix, the well known French resort at the foot of Mont Blanc. The Trient Valley is an untouched paradise that is blessed with natural wild gorges, grottos, dinosaur tracks and one of the most beautiful glaciers of the Alps is one of the major tourist attractions.
The Trient River, which rose from the glacier of the same name cut into the 200 m deep gorge in the rocks. This 200 m deep ravine is a great fascination for climbers and nature lovers as its beauty makes it a haven on this earth. The impressive 114 m high “Pissevache” waterfall makes the experience more exciting and interesting. The Valaisian River of Trient has its source at the eponymous glacier above the town of Trient, near the French border. The Trient forms a narrow deep and a very striking ravine at Vernayaz near Martigny. The front of the Ravine can be crossed only by means of a 187 m high bridge that spans the gorge. It is a major tourist attraction for the visitors and they can get the information about the geology of Ravine its special habitat flora and fauna. The Cascade de Pissevache is used for hydropower and can be very large and impressive depending on the amount of power it is being tapped for.
