The village of Bex in the canton Vaud is located on the eastern edge of lower Rhone Valley and the region is quite famous for its salt mines. The large municipality extends far up into Vaud Alps and offer sightseeing attractions that include Alpine Botanical Garden and Diablerets Massif. There are over 100 hectares of vineyards as well as chestnut woods that cover the southern slopes while the agriculture and furniture growing dominates the Rhone Plain. The higher areas up to the extensive Alpine zone are basically used for dairy farming and cattle breeding. The major tourist attraction of Bex is its salt mines that cove an extensive area of about 50 km. A section of this subterranean labyrinth is open to the public and a mine train take the visitors to the its depth so that they can learn about the methods of salt mining .The tunnel was constructed in 1684 and is still used for the same purpose. Among the other major attractions the visitors can enjoy the spa and wellness treatments in neighboring Lavey-les- Bains that has managed to retain its spa traditions. It has Switzerland’s warmest thermal baths that offer spa culture along with various indoor and outdoor pools a Turkish bath and Nordic Saunna are the other things which the visitors can’t afford to miss. The Spa is coupled with Grand hotels to solve the accommodation problems of the visitors. A visit to Thomasia Alpine Botanical Garden of Lausanne University found in Pont-de-Nant at Les Plans-Sur-Bex is a home to more than 3000 species of plants and because of its variety of vegetation it is a nature reserve for decades and a must visit destination on a trip to Geneva.
