Geneva's Musée d'Art et d'Histoire is the largest and most well acclaimed museum located at the east of the old town. The museum features rich collection of applied art and archaeology dating back to pre-historical times. The ground floor of the museum is decorated with Greek and Roman art treasures, together with Middle Eastern, Eastern Mediterranean antiquities along with Egyptian Funerary and Etruscan pottery. The main ground floor of the museum is ornamented with collection of antiquities, with material from Geneva and the surrounding area ranging from early Stone Age and Iron Age through Roman and Gallo-Roman times to the Middle Ages. The fine arts section displays more than 400 paintings dating from Renaissance to today. Beautiful work from Monet, Sisley , Pissaro, Chagall and Picasso and Ferdinand Holder are on display which gives you a chance to immerse yourself in local and regional prehistory. The museum remains opened everyday except on Mondays from 10.00 am to 17.00 pm. Guided tours are also arranged on request.
