The Abegg Foundation is the prime center in the world for textile conservation. The foundation devotes its research to early textiles and applied art. The permanent display depicts mutually beneficial influences selecting art work of various genres. The exhibition includes sculptures, paintings, ceramics , bronze and glass from Europe, The Mediterranean region and near East, examples from Coptic Egypt to pristine velvets and embroideries of Renaissance, spanning the centuries from ancient times to 18th century. The art work embedded in historic and artistic surroundings has been assembled under topographical and chronological order of its worldwide importance from the European middle ages to most prominent archeological and historical pieces from all over the world.
