The Klosters ski resort is a part of the Davos ski network that is situated at a height of 1200 m above sea level. This resort enjoys a high international profile especially due to the annual visits made by Prince Charles and his sons. Part of the Davos ski network, the Klosters ski resort shares the Parsenn ski field with its more cosmopolitan counterpart (Davos) that is 10 km away. However Klosters has its own ski area, the Madrisa.
The Klosters resort is split into 2 parts namely Dorf and Platz. Platz has classy hotels near the station and a lively ambience, while Dorf remains very quiet. But it must be mentioned that both of them have plenty of Alpine charm and an unassuming beauty that draws a number of famous names from all over the world.
There are some great on- and off-snow restaurants at Klosters, but nevertheless the evenings are pretty quiet. Non-skiers can visit the sports center or try their hand at some ice-skating, sleigh rides and sled runs down the front of the Gotschna. The Klosters ski resort has several marked walks within the valley, by the river and up the mountains that offer skiers and non-skiers a great opportunity to bask in the warmth of the sun and relax. One of the most famous marked walks is the one from the ancient hamlet of Montbiel to the old Garfiun restaurant.
Klosters offers skiing facilities for all categories of skiers. Advanced skiers have the good on- and off-piste, intermediates have plenty of long blues and reds and beginners can have their share of fun at Parsenn with its gentle, developing runs. The lift system at the ski resort of Klosters has been partially upgraded, which also includes the Gotschna cable car, named after Prince Charles. However, local transport is needed to access other ski areas.
Over the years Klosters has managed to keep away from the forces of extended commercialization and has wonderfully managed to preserve much of the Alpine charm it has always been known for. But it is still expensive and has an up market reputation. But you should remember that the Klosters ski resort offers a wholesome skiing experience to every type of skier. If skiing is your passion and you are raring to make a dash through some of the most exciting slopes in Switzerland, Klosters is surely the place for you.
