Around 75 km away from Berne and 2/3 hours away from Zurich, Grindelwald is the oldest yet the least- known of all the3 Jungfrau resorts - Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren. All three resorts combine to offer 188 km of piste and are clustered around the magnificent Eiger, with Grindelwald situated at the base. This however leads to a lack of sun in the winter. Often referred to as a mountaineering Mecca, Grindelwald is a pretty sight to behold, although Murren possesses the best views. Grindelwald has its own domain and is linked with Wengen while a slight trek can get you to Murren. The cog railway and the gondola get you to the slopes however, it can be pretty crowded during weekends. The lift system is rather old but should be receiving attention soon. It may also be mentioned that Grindelwald has Europe's longest sledge run, which is 15 km long.
Skiing at the Grindelwald ski resort can be said to favor intermediates and the advanced skiers must be prepared to travel if they don't want to miss their share of excitement and fun. Greatly popular with families the Grindelwald resort also has a good ski school with many English-speaking instructors to boot. Grindelwald has everything going in its favor but the lack of guaranteed snow is a big problem that threatens to mar its popularity.
If you are off the snow at Grindelwald, there is a lot you can do to keep yourself occupied. You can explore the place on the train that helps you to get around. Après-ski is pretty laid-back but the hotel restaurants at Grindelwald are simply excellent. Besides, there are a few bars and a couple of clubs in Grindelwald that makes it slightly livelier than the other Jungfrau resorts.
Overall, the Grindelwald ski resort is a beautiful family ski resort, with a great range of skiing and non-skiing options available to everyone. However the presence of snow is the main factor that decides the flow of visitors in Grindelwald. One major attraction of the Grindelwald resort is the annual World Snow Festival where thousands of sculptors present their creations and it is really a wonderful sight to watch them work on their creations.
