The Hotel Interlaken is more than 700 years old! The building that the hotel now occupies was once the main guesthouse of a small hamlet. The Hotel Interlaken was then a hive of activity; state functions, festival celebrations and family functions were all held in the yard of the hotel. This hotel has hosted many celebrated poets, musicians and artistes down the ages, two of them being Lord Byron and the composer Mendelssohn. You can still see the hotel walls that date back to 1491 in the lobby and the restaurant.
In 1491, the owner of the hotel was awarded his personal coat of arms by the King. You can see the coat of arms at the hotel, heralding the grandeur and splendor of the days gone by.
